Git Web Dev Course - End of Section 8

Tonight was all about finishing the styling on our intro / story section of this travel agency site we're building in the course. I really like the way this course is going about showing us things. I love that it gets into the whys of the workflow instead of just saying "this is how you do it, just use these commands"....it really tries to explain what's going on which each command and shows you what it looks like to do it yourself. I also really love that we actually style the site ourselves. Other courses I've done, all of the styling is done for you, and the focus is more on adding interaction and JavaScript alone. It's been really nice actually walking through building a site from a design file, step by step. Actually going through and styling it all. All we're given to begin with is the basic HTML file, so there's no typing of paragraphs and such. We still add in classes, and other divs, and links to photos and such. It's a good mix. Wit...

Portfolio Thoughts

My redesign of my portfolio is pretty close to done. This will be my third iteration of it. lol It's pretty similar to my second iteration, mostly tweaking some layout things. Just a few things left to do.... I have a certificate section, which I'd like the cert to show a larger view if someone clicks on it. Pretty sure I can get this working somewhat easily, just gotta write it in. Need to re-write my about text, again. I can't get it to sound quite like I want.  I'd like to keep working on my navigation, add a colored highlight under the current section. Not real sure how to do this yet, so this one might wait awhile. I've got a little arrow on my title page, just to, you know, show that it scrolls down. Sort of feel like it should be a button but also I don't want it to be one. Think I'll wait on this until I share my page and get some feedback, see if it's mentioned at all. Eventually want to add my resume on there. I've got the button hi...

Building the Life I Want - A Starting Point

Hello there! I'm glad you're here. This blog is going to be a record of my learning process. At least once a week (sometimes more), I intend to share what I'm learning, what I'm struggling with, and make this a place to store learning and progress. Feel free to follow along and share your thoughts with me! So, here's where I'm starting from - working through two different courses: MongoDB for JavaScript Developers  - I've been wanting to focus on a database language for quite some time now, and after completing a course that utilized MongoDB, I decided to take the plunge and do a deep dive into it. Luckily, I was just in time to start the current round! I'm currently in between weeks 3 & 4, and have already learned so much. So far, we've covered getting the mongod server started on our computers, interacting with it through the mongo shell commands, and are just getting started with working with the database in node itself. Git a Web Deve...
