Git Web Dev Course - End of Section 8

Tonight was all about finishing the styling on our intro / story section of this travel agency site we're building in the course.

I really like the way this course is going about showing us things. I love that it gets into the whys of the workflow instead of just saying "this is how you do it, just use these commands"....it really tries to explain what's going on which each command and shows you what it looks like to do it yourself.

I also really love that we actually style the site ourselves. Other courses I've done, all of the styling is done for you, and the focus is more on adding interaction and JavaScript alone. It's been really nice actually walking through building a site from a design file, step by step. Actually going through and styling it all. All we're given to begin with is the basic HTML file, so there's no typing of paragraphs and such. We still add in classes, and other divs, and links to photos and such. It's a good mix.

With any of these classes where you follow along and build together, they always seem to switch too fast. I'm listening along, typing as we go, and before I can finish my typing and verifying that I've got it right their screen is already flipped back to the site or something else. Which, you know, maybe I just type slow and don't quite trust myself. Listening to the pace of the speech it doesn't seem too fast, so maybe I'm just not very good at typing and listening together. It just always kind of mildly irks me that I can't hit pause fast enough to still see the editor on screen most of the time. Gotta find a better way to deal with that.

I really thought we were going to get into some discussion on fonts tonight, as there was a big story text section, and from the design file, it looked like a different text, and maybe some justification on the right side. But apparently I was wrong. We worked with line height and font size, but not the font itself. Once we finished, it did reasonably look like the design file....I think I just really wanted to play with fonts. lol

Our next section is about git branches, which I think is going to be really helpful, since my portfolio redesign is currently in it's own branch and soon I'm going to have to merge it in. Which I've never done. So it'll probably be worth it to complete this whole next section and see how we do that before I go back to my personal site and mess with it. :) Should be interesting!
